Most of you people whether you are at home, travelling, in a business meeting, seminars or any such place consciously or unconsciously drink packaged drinking water without actually knowing what it gives to your body? , Do you really need it? if "yes" then what should be the quantity you should take in because excess water in your body can also cause different problems.

What is packaged drinking water?

Packaged drinking water also known as bottled water consist of ozonated water, magnesium sulphate, potassium bicarbonate or sodium, which ultimately change the colour, taste and increase the health benefits of ground water. some of the ingredients like sodium must be avoided by people who have high blood pressure. Although the count of these minerals and other components is very low ranging between 0.1 - 0.3mg (in 100ml) but surely can affect your body in the long run.




Ground water purification process


Ground water goes through a different purification process which may be vary depending on the brand and the product. Following are the standard purification steps -


1) Ozonisation -

In this step ozone gas is passed into the water to destroy all bacteria, yeast , moulds, viruses and cyst which can cause several waterborne diseases like -
  • Acute dehydration
  • Diarrhea ( Cholera )
  • Typhoid
  • Dysentery

5) Adding mineral to reverse osmosis water -

After reverse osmosis or micron filtration, the next thing is to add minerals to it ranging from 0.1 - 0.3mg (in 100 ml ) which consist -



  • Magnesium sulphate (Good for bones )
  • Potassium bicarbonate( Reduce hypertension)
  • Some of them also have sodium ( must be avoided by people who have high blood pressure)


How much water should we drink ?

Here i am not going to tell you about 8x8 rule to drink water, but its just as simple as ABC , drink as much as your body needs not more than that.

Older people may need to watch their water consumption because according to some studies thirst mechanism can start to malfunction in old age.

You must know how much your body needs water because excessive water intake can also cause some serious health issue like -

Water intoxication - 

Water intoxication also known as Hyponatremia which can occur when you drink extreme amount of water in a short span of time, which cause sudden decrements in salt or sodium(if not present in the mineral water) in your blood to drop too low, and can be a major health issue.
